Today I hit up the Killing Fields in Cambodia.. Wow..
The Killing Fields in Phnom Penh, Cambodia was most likely the most soul chilling thing I have ever seen. Its almost hard to imagine what was actually taking place there thirty years ago while the world stood by silent. Over a million people, the energy lays like a thick cloud over the area that you can almost still smell in the air. Its not far from the riverside, where our hotel was. I only paid about $10 round trip, some may say that I got over charged but.. Whatever, consider it a donation to a nice guy that can barely affored shoes and sleeps in his tuk tuk at night. Its amazing how many tourists will barter and argue over a buck and then spend a hundred dollar bill in the bar that night.
The ride up to the killing fields is dusty! There are a few places where you can stop on the way to buy a face mask, thank god our driver stopped beforehand and told me what to expect. No trip here would be complete without seeing this. Really makes me glad that I was anywhere but here during that time. Even thirty years later you can still see bones and tears of clothing ground into the soil around the mass graves. Sad.
