The Surin Elephant Festival
The Surin Elephant Fair is held every third week of November at Si Narong Stadium. Since ancient times, elephants have been a common element in Surin society. Not only thought of as transportation and construction tools, locals consider elephants as family members. At the festival, expect a show of elephants at the dining table, an elephant welcome float, games of elephant capture, a football match, and an elephant war show. The festival finishes with a tug of war competition between elephant and man.

On the third week of November all of the most talented elephant trainers (mahouts) in Thailand will converge on the Elephant Study Center in the province of Surin for the biggest elephant festival in South East Asia: The Surin Elephant Round-Up. For nearly 50 years spectators have watched in marvel as over 200 elephants display their skills, compete and take part in sacred rituals. This year audiences can expect no less than an elephant extravaganza as elephants take part in log pulling demonstrations, play soccer, march in a parade donning full battle regalia as well as reenact battles of the past, and many other activities. In addition to the elephant spectacle, traditional dances will be preformed at the intermissions by the local tribes of the area. After witnessing the Elephant Round-Up, you’ll understand why the Thai people consider Surin “the land of elephants”.

"I just returned on a 2 week tour of Thailand and Laos with your company. Had a great time and it was so well organized. I would like to get Mr. Aesopa's email so I can email him some pictures of my son and I. Mr. Aesopa is a wonderful guide and he really enhanced the trip by showing us some unusual places and food. We even tried dried insects and snake whisky. Thank you again and we can't wait to plan our next trip. Our friends want to go to with us to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in the near future."
