Your favorite SE Asian destination

What is your favorite place to be in SE Asia?

Having traveled all over it, my personal choice would have to be Malaysia...I love the mix of English colonial elegance, Asian high-tech wizardry and the Muslim touch that gives everything a rather unique feel.

KL would be a great place to live, while a weekend away in Borneo, Penang or the Cameron Highlands is as relaxing a time as anyone can hope for...

A pretty difficult question to answer, its a big place and I love lots of different areas for different reasons. I think overall, I have always been partial to the islands of Thailand. If I had to pick one, I would pick the area around Krabi. I like the friendliness of Thai culture, the younger crowd of rock climbers and scuba divers, the white sand and naturalistic setting easily win me over..

Krabi is awesome. I also would have to say that Thailand is my favorite, but think that I prefer the trio of Kho Tow, Kho Samui and Kho Panang. Great diving in Kho Tow, but the nicer restaurants and nightlife are easy to find in Kho Samui, and the full moon party is a quick boat ride away in Kho Panang. Its all fairly close though, so anywhere in the south of Thailand is pretty much in the same neighborhood.

I would have to say Thailand overall though..

Even though I'm not a beach person, some of the Thai beaches were indeed pretty stunning...I was particularly impressed by Koh Phi Phi, the closest I've seen to a true tropical paradise...

Oh.. I so agree.. I could even widen that to the whole Krabi area. All of those islands are just awesome.
