Must see's in Phnom Penh
It's a little bit of a trip outside of the city, but it is one of those things that you just have to see. I took the guided tour, which was free, and I can say that I'm not sure if I have ever been emotionally confused in quite that way. A mix of feeling interested, sad, and amazed that something like this could happen in such recent time. The mass graves are everywhere, and you can still see bones and tears of clothing everywhere you look. Right in the front, behind the tower of skulls, is the mass grave for children after they were beaten to death against a tree to save on bullets.
This site has a pretty good write-up on S-21, and as was recommended I went here at the beginning of my trip. I am glad that I saw this before the killing fields, as it was a pretty fitting before and after scenario of the horrific tale. You just have to see it.
Ancient Khamar carvings, statues, and art. The museum really did a great job of bringing together the history of the area.
