Welcome to TravelMonks!
In most introductions, people want to know what you're all about. Well, being that this community is still very much in its infancy, I guess the honest answer is that TravelMonks is a website of passion for a group of travelers who want to do good things, and believe that the most enlightened lives are those which travel.
We are not looking to be a Travelocity, nor a Tripadvisor.. Our real mission in building this site is to provide for an online community of people who believe in the idea of consciousness through traveling. The human race is slowly beginning to learn how to live together. Slowly the cultural, political and social barriers which keep us divided are breaking down. The truth that we are all more alike than different is becoming more obvious. Hopefully sooner than later, we as people sharing the same planet will evolve into being immune from some of what we were raised to believe, what we are fed through our local media, and this general notion that we are all competing countries. History has shown us that a large group of people will always have more success in making a difference than an individual, hopefully this community of traveling, modern day travel Monks will become that group.
We picked Asia as our starting place, although as time goes on we will be widening the scope to other areas of the world where there is a community that shows an interest. Everyone who travels, and I mean really travels, has had the pleasure of meeting many people who genuinely enlightened them to life lessons that they had somehow overlooked. All of us involved in TravelMonks hope that someday, TravelMonks can serve as a networking place for others to meet, and have similar experiences.
Although in its infancy, we have plans. Plans of expanding the site in terms of features. Plans of helping people in places, and supporting good causes from revenue which this website generates, plans of providing a means for which other people who have the same interests can join in. We also have high hopes that the name TravelMonks can someday be a label that means something more than just a website. If you feel the same, lets get together.
