With less tourist traffic than the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, the Taling Chan Floating Market is a more genuine representation of traditional markets in Thailand. Though still quaint, this market is less concentrated on the water with various vendors setting up shop along the banks of the canal.

Details

The market is located on the Chakpra Canal in the Taling Chan district of Bangkok Noi and is near the Taling Chan District Office. It can be reached by bus 79 or 83.

This market is smaller in size to Damnoen Saduak with fewer vendors and mostly local patrons. These vendors sell anything from plants and souveniers to sweet snacks and full meals cooked on boats along the canal. Floating restaurants along the canal are a major draw for locals and tourists alike. These restaurants are essentially boats and barges with a kitchen and a few low tables and mats to sit on. Some typical snacks include Thai-style tacos, dumplings, skewers and all sorts of fried treats.

Like other floating markets, there are boat tours that will paddle you out on the canal. These tours will take you past the beautiful hotels, small orchards and temples lining the canal as well as making a stop at the floating market and is a great way to explore the area efficiently, especially if you are traveling in a group. These tours typically last two hours. Also as with other markets, early mornings are more ideal times to visit due to the high volume of tourists and tour groups that come in the later mornings.

Other atttractions in the area include the beautiful botanical and orchid gardens and the Thonburi Snake Farm. The Thonburi Snake Farm is open Sundays and some boat tours will include this as a stop.

Exotissimo.com: Perfect Thailand Tours at the Best Possible Prices

"I just returned on a 2 week tour of Thailand and Laos with your company. Had a great time and it was so well organized. I would like to get Mr. Aesopa's email so I can email him some pictures of my son and I. Mr. Aesopa is a wonderful guide and he really enhanced the trip by showing us some unusual places and food. We even tried dried insects and snake whisky. Thank you again and we can't wait to plan our next trip. Our friends want to go to with us to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in the near future."
